Catherine Dixon is designer, writer and teacher. She co-authored Signs: lettering in the environment (2003) with Phil Baines, has written many articles, and curated a number of typographic conferences. She holds a PhD from the Graphic Communication Programme at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts, London) where she also teaches. From 2011 to 2012, she was a Visiting Professor at the University of São Paulo in Brazil.
For this year’s conference, Fontstand came to Ireland. Local designers and attendees from abroad were joined by type designers and many of our foundry partners.
Catherine Dixon spoke to Daniel Sabino, founder of Blackletra about his beginnings, fascinations, and about São Paulo, a metropolis of over 12 million citizens and the economic capital of Brazil.
Argentinian designer Ramiro Espinoza, founder of ReType, brings his enthusiasm for Dutch design to a practical exploration of how we might guide typography into the future by learning more about its past.
